books are for nerds anyway

earlier this week i broke down and ordered a kindle. i'd like to think it wasn't due to my economic stimulus check; i also got an amazon gift cert in the mail that day, and besides, i've got a bunch of travel coming up and i have been meaning to catch up on my walt whitman.

anyway today it arrived with little fanfare. most of my favorite books aren't on there, which is ok since i've already read them, but that's the majority of books i'd be interested in reading right now. anyway it looks ok and it's not going to change my life or anything, but here are two actual complaints about the device:

1. you can't apply gift certs from the device

i was on my way back from the coinstar (woo! $32.24!) and was all set to order a 99 cent version of leaves of grass, but i had to wait until i got home.

2. it took me all of five minutes to get a poop stain on it

with normal analog books you can just rip out the offending page(s), but now with the stupid kindle i have to stop at the post office on my way to work tomorrow, and then wait for a replacement to arrive. "future of book reading" my ass.
