they said it couldn't be done
it is true that i have fallen in love with intermodal cars. the train store had some gorgeous G scale cars, and there were some HO ones as well, but we could not find any O gauge. i asked a guy there, and he said they used to make them, but they didn't sell well, or something. we were flabbergasted, because intermodals are the pinnacle of awesomeness. alas; i had resigned myself to a lifetime of want.
but last night i noticed some in the 2006 lionel catalog. not only that, but there were two different sets which come with canadian pacific containers! i checked the train store's web site, and sure enough, they show up there; it must be a mistake, or probably they are out of stock. so, i called them up today, and sure enough, they have them, in stock. so i ventured back to malden (a crossing guard even helped me across a busy street! those heartland values...), and wrote down the part numbers i wanted. while they were getting them from "the back" i browsed around, and sure enough, still could not find them. at least now i know why they don't sell well!
