to continue my ushering in of summer, i removed the plastic insulation from the window in my room.
last night we played some mafia at nat's i won the game in which i was mafia, and was killed (in the first round! by the innocents!!) in the game i was confidant. we added a time limit on the discussion rounds, and it makes things pretty exciting.
i think i broke my old vaio.
i've been meaning to set up my machines to do such useful things as mailing me when disk self testing fails, or when swraid kicks out a disk. i've been putting it off since i have 4 or 5 machines that i'd need to set it up on, and really i should be using some tool.
this weekend i finally got around to playing with genders, a tool which is used at the labs' clusters. it has some interesting failure modes. for example, the syntax for installing some file in /etc/ is:
87kyum: 87k/yum.conf -> ${attr_all} install /etc/yum.conf;
there's also a syntax for installing multiple files to a directory:
87kOPENLDAP = ( openldap/ldap.conf openldap/cancerclam-ca.pem ) 87kopenldap: ${87kOPENLDAP} -> ${attr_all} install /etc;
FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING HOLY DO NOT GET THESE TWO MIXED UP!
If you accidentally do something like this (which seems reasonable, considering cp's semantics, and the above syntaxes):
87knsswitch: 87k/nsswitch.conf -> ${attr_all} install /etc;
then you lose, and have to reinstall, since all of /etc/ was removed and you now have a file named /etc which looks shockingly like what you might want to find in /etc/nsswitch.conf.

i am shocked that the bruins got gonchar. now it's time to start complaining that they didn't get leech and bondra.

with the new trades, phik and i decided to go see the leafs/bruings game on the 25th. we weren't sure whether or not we wanted to get the more expensive tickets or not, but then we figured if we got the cheaper ones, we could go to the game tuesday against the sens as well:

workin for the weekend
i just found out that for mkinitrd to work with raid on fedora/red hat linux, you have to build md.o into the kernel, but not raid1.o. this doesn't make much sense to me. but here we are.
finally could easily trigger the 0size bug, and phik fixed it. so that's good.
also the bruins won and gonchar got a PP goal. it's almost as if he is good at that.
i can't wait for saturday morning.

how could i forget vancouver?
last night i had a dream that went something like this:
Me: i know the three in the east are the three from the northeast, and two of the ones from the west are calgary and edmonton, but what's the sixth canadian hockey team?
Phil: you idiot, there are only 5 canadian hockey teams.
last night i had a dream where i had a tooth dream. and then i was at the dentist and a tooth fell out. the tooth was very strange - it seemed too big and instead of being white, it was wooden, with browns and grays. the dentist place was strange, too. this one guy had a lot of little metal holes in his face, for some kind of head gear thing. it kinda looked like someone from the matrix.
in another dream, phil and joe were visiting shaver for a couple of days. i got tickets to visit, but only for one day. basically all of the dream was spent trying to figure out if i should change my flight or try to make the current one. the air canada gates had a little sigh that said "RUN -->>" and flashed when the flight was about to leave.
and in yet another dream, my hair was really long again. i was angry that i had to get a haircut yet again.
i haven't seen a hockey game since saturday, and i won't get to see one until tomorrow.
more strange dreams. one was i was going to buy the house nat was living in. it wasn't his current place, it was some huge house. i started moving in, or something, and then was wondering how i was going to pay for it. i could remember how much phil's house cost... for some reason i was buying it from the person before nat; he was this older wealthy guy. i was trying to get him to tell me how much it would cost per month, so i could try to get out of it if i had to.
then there was something about some helicopters and a river, and them trying to get some montster out of it or something.
then i was in high school english, giving some report or something. it was supposed to be some long thing, but i only had written down 2 sentences or so before i started talking. i think it went terribly.
i need to go take a shower so i can see the trade deadline show on espnews.
ugh. to many cookies.
i finally got a shelf for my cds this weekend. some day, some of my furniture might match.
i wonder if i can order sugar placebo pills on the internet. when i am having an allergic sneeze-fest, and try to take some benadryl, i am almost convinced that the act of taking the pill causes the sneezes to go away.
this weekend phil and i started playing FF:CC and so far it is more fun than FF:TA and FF:X2. i think it would be even more fun if we had a third player. if he hadn't been so cranky about the whole thing, maybe phil and i would have gotten him a gba for his birthday.
the problem with cleaning my room is that after i start, and the dust kicks up, i take a benadryl, and then pass out soon after...
i would mention the fun weekend, which started off with dinner at the capital grille and ended with phil not coming over to play FF:CC. however, i am angry because i can't find a decent webdav server.
and instead of explaining what i would want in a decent webdav server, i'm going to go to sleep and look forward to tomorrow's hockey game.
