the worms dig
these are for my friend phil:
jacob@wet-pants:jacob$ echo $SSH_ENV
/home/jacob/.ssh/env-wet-pants
jacob@wet-pants:jacob$ echo $PROMPT_COMMAND
. $SSH_ENV &>/dev/null; echo -ne "\033]0;${USER}@${HOSTNAME}:`basename "${PWD}"`\007"
jacob@wet-pants:jacob$ cat .bin/start-agent
#!/bin/sh
if [ -z "$SSH_ENV" ] ; then
SSH_ENV="$HOME/.ssh/env-$(hostname)"
fi
if [ -f "$SSH_ENV" ] ; then
. "$SSH_ENV" > /dev/null
if ps x | grep "$SSH_AGENT_PID" | grep ssh-agent$ >/dev/null ; then
echo "Agent already running."
exit 1
fi
fi
echo "Starting new agent..."
export OLD_SSH_ENV=$(ssh-agent)
save-agent
. "$SSH_ENV" > /dev/null
ssh-add
jacob@wet-pants:jacob$ cat .bin/save-agent
#!/bin/sh
if [ -z "$SSH_ENV" ] ; then
SSH_ENV="$HOME/.ssh/env-$(hostname)"
fi
if [ "$OLD_SSH_ENV" ] ; then
echo "Saving old SSH environment."
echo "$OLD_SSH_ENV" > "$SSH_ENV"
chmod 600 "$SSH_ENV"
elif [ "$SSH_AUTH_SOCK" ] ; then
echo "Saving current SSH environment."
export | grep SSH > "$SSH_ENV"
chmod 600 "$SSH_ENV"
else
echo "SSH environment NOT saved."
fi
the problems they try to solve are twofold:
- i couldn't figure out how to get ssh-agent to start on OS X when
i log in
- ssh agents didn't work inside remote screen sessions after i
reattach
i run start-agent when i log in to OS X, and save-agent when i ssh
to a remote machine.

October 6, 1995 ... Cleveland completes a sweep with an 8-2
victory over Boston. Indians third baseman Jim Thome starts the
scoring with a two run homer off of Tim Wakefield in the second
inning. A.L. MVP Mo Vaughn and slugger Jose Canseco go a combined
0-27 in the competition for Boston.
October 6, 1997 ... The Indians finish off the Yankees with a 4-3
victory in a decisive Game 5, advancing to the AL Championship
Series competition for the second time in three years. The
Yankees' quest for a second straight and 24th World Series title
ends.

ensconse your soul
i had dinner at the thai place with phil tonight. there is almost a
100% chance of me getting thai tomorrow as well. i like having
dinner with phil, because i learn interesting things. for example,
tonight i found out that for the past week or so, i've had a new
manager. i can't wait to find out what surprises tomorrow holds!
i still don't really "get" the pixies. their music just
doesn't move me like radiohead/zeppelin/etc. but then i'll go and
listen to an album, and a couple of days later it will be stuck in
my head.
before i lost my camera nat and i went snowboarding.
joe went too, but he's not in this picture because he thought i'd push him off the chairlift.
i stayed up until 3:30 tonight playing with garage band and my
guitar. it's amazing that a $2500 computer with some $50 software
sounds better than the amp that came with my $250 guitar.

i've got nothing to say
i walked around boston for maybe 6 hours in all today. this is one
of the two pictures i took:
from the longfellow bridge
i saw a rat climb a tree, and had some ice cream.

so it has come to this
last night i walked around fenway park about half an hour before the
game. seeing the crowds of people walking around, full of hope, it
made me miss hockey again.
earlier in the week TiVo recorded a show from the nfl network on
football in ohio. it talked about the last 20 years or so for the
bengals and the browns, and then had a lengthy segment on the hall
of fame.
they covered the 80's: cincinatti's superbowl losses, and the
browns' post-season misfortunes: red right 88, the drive, and the
fumble. "unfortunately," began the segue into the 90's,
"these would come to be known as the good old days..."
anyway you'd think that the red sox would be the perfect team for
me: i'd still get to hate the yankees, and i'd still be disappointed
every year. but it's too much fun laughing when manny ramirez
strikes out with two men on to end the inning.
so i started liking lurgee today. that means i now like about half
of that album.

A LIST OF THINGS THAT ARE FUNNY TO ME BECAUSE I AM NOT A RED SOX FAN
- manny misplaying (routine) fly balls
- ortiz trying to steal second base
- mark "bunty mcflyout" bellhorn trying to play in the majors
- knuckeballs bouncing past the catcher
- in extra innings
- with men on base
seriously, joe and i need to get some sort of managing or
broadcasting deal in place. the world is really missing out on
something special there.

new new funkytowntown
somehow i managed to not work today, and got in some sim city.
while looking for some names for my cities, i came across a page
about the history
of the villages of newton which i thought was interesting.
this paragraph is even less interesting than the previous one.

one of these days...
20:19 < boc> rm: cannot remove `BUILD/rpm-4.2/python/rpmdb-py.h': Interrupted
system call
it would be another 4 hours before the fix for that went into the
tree... and that wasn't the first (or last!) thing to go terribly
wrong today. it's still more-or-less monday, i've already worked 15
hours this week, and yet i'm still behind.
last night i found this picture under the radiator in my bedroom.
it's really creeping me out.
in 7 hours my phone will ring, and i'll get to do it all again...

amazing
i remember sitting in bed last night, thinking to myself how great
my new apartment has been. i haven't needed to sleep with earplugs
once!
i should have known better.
at 8 something this morning, i was woken up to find myself in what
seemed like a subwoofer. apparently some people are here to do
something with the sprinklers in the yard, and are vibrating things
just right to make a deafening rumble in my bedroom.
it's ok, though. i only really wanted four hours of sleep anyway...

is it friday yet?
i took a break to go get a scanner. i got an hp 4070 or something.
it doesn't work on my mac.
still creepy, but with 20% less red eye
i used to play baseball:
the weary face of an indians fan
i'll play with it more tomorrow.
