i got a baseball bat and phil, joe and i did some batting practice
at the school by my apartment. surprisingly, not only was i able to
hit it at all (which i had originally doubted), but i could hit it
pretty far too. joe and phil had similar experiences. at one
point, we had lost 3 out of 4 balls in hards behind the backstop,
but found 2 of them eventually. tomorrow we are going to get more
balls.
nat, taylor, alex, and ryan stopped by for some grilling.
my hard drive died the other day so i got a tibook (finally). built
evo for it, seems to work nicely (with ldap and ssl). managing
software by rsyncing /gnome2 is not very scalable. i need to start
building some fink packages.

got to work: around noon
finished reading mail: around 4
phil got some more balls and we played a bit more baseball.
miraculously, not losing any balls this time. i almost hit one over
the fence but it hit a tree. a dog stole phil's glove.
time to sleep.

over the weekend blizzard came
over and watched the harry potter movie. at some point it killed my
dvd player. they finished watching it in the ps2, which died 2 days
later.
it's been raining for about 24 hours.

nat, your rearranged page doesn't make
sense since i have to wait for the whole thing to load to see new
content.

p a n i c
joe and i saw insomnia today. i guess it was good cause i wasn't
disliking it at any point during the film.
nat, get well soon.
today i did 6 loads of laundry, and had exactly enough quarters to
do it.
i am very hungry and very tired.
i fixed some bugs today.
i need to figure out a way to get iTunes to visualize my guitar as i
play it. i think that would be fun. i wonder if i'd have to encode
it to a mp3 stream? will require more investigation.
i am really glad i got the strokes cd a while back. it is really
good. nat likes it too. it will be interesting to hear what their
next album sounds like.
doing laundry is impressively rewarding, for how much i dread it.
and it's not hard to do. i don't know why i dread it so much.
it's gonna be hot. dc's never seen it like this before.

it being sunday and all i feel compelled to update this thing.
the weekend was quite productive. yesterday i rebuilt gnome2 on my
desktop and rsynced to the laptop. today i ripped about 35 more of
my cds. and listened to aphex twin. in addition to straightening up
my room a bit. i also realized i could play console video games
connected to my dv camera. sadly the one i have is old and crappy
so i can't do video in -> dv out and play them on my computer
screen.
ok so not as productive as some
might say.
i think i've been having interesting dreams but i can't remember
much of them, aside from being at a baseball game where jim thome
stole home. i attribute this to the sleeping schedule i've
developed. well not so much sleeping as the waking up schedule. i
had been not going to sleep until too late but waking up at sane
hours anyway.
friday we retriaged our gnome 2 bugs, and knocked off 10. i also
shaved off over 3 seconds off the solaris gnome2 login time, but
there's lots of room for improvement.

merely days after i realize it's june already, june is nearing its
end.
so there's these new "chillout" compilation/mix cds out
these days, and for some reason radiohead gets on them. i don't
really have an opinion on "pyramid song" being on them,
but "stree spirit (fade out)" is not something i'd
"chill out" to.
if thom yorke was dead, i'm sure he'd be turning over in his grave.
the best part of me being in a band would be my own reviews of it:
In an ironic twist, the band ended the show with a horrid
rendition of Radiohead's "Anyone Can Play Guitar".
i'm sure that joke's been made before.

cool summer morning
i'm sitting here about to go to sleep, listening to rain starting to
fall, after a fun evening of hanging out with friends and meeting
some new people.
raindrops falling to the ground
we saw the minority report last night, and it was actually very
good. they had a preview for a new silence of the lambs movie with
ed norton, phillip seymor hoffman, and mary-louise parker(!!!). it
comes out 3 days before my birthday. i am psyched.
i'm going to sleep

i got reason
yesterday. it's pretty sweet but i wasn't in a good mood so i
couldn't do anything good.
i had a story about me getting the astrobotnia cd but i decided it
was pretty lame.
i'm at the airport with nat and joe. we are going to ottawa. so
far it's been a fun trip.

joe nat and i are sitting in our hotel room on our laptops watching
the west wing. i like this episode a lot.
we watched some of the g8 protests on tv, then decided to go check
it out. there were a few people hanging out outside the us embassy,
including one of the people we saw talking on tv. there's a ton of
things spraypainted all over the city. some of the slogans are
pretty good. i wonder if they make them up on the spot or if they
have a list they walk around with. what's the web site they get
that stuff from?
oh my. they are pronouncing the kia sportage like
"fromage" rather than "storage". what's going
on?

June 30, 2002
i'm sitting in our hotel room (again) waiting for the sleeping
princesses to awake. there's pretty much a constant
"stream" (can't think of a better word) of horn-honking
coming from brazil fans outside.
last night was pretty fun. after the keynote where nat failed to
win the programming with qt book from o'reilly, we ate at e18hteen
("life's too short to drink bad wine!" -- the owner) - a
trendy-ish restaurant somewhere in ottawa. it was good, i didn't
order nearly as much as everyone else but was full afterwards
anyway. sadly the dj didn't spin whilst we were there.
after that we headed to the black thorn for the party. we hung out
there for a while talking to some people who were using the
rc-installer (!!!) code for installing their product. much pain
saved in using the nasty rpm binary-incompatible workarounds. i
also discovered i wasn't the only one thinking that zab did kt - sammy had been duped too.
then nat and i decided to try to find the place dave ralph was
spinning at. most of the conversations went something like this:
nat: hey, do you know where the dave ralph show is?
them: dave who?
we eventually gave up and just hung out with some people at like a
youth hostel or something.
they gave us some canadian flags. they seemed like nice people, and
said a couple of people from the conference were staying there.
nat went back to the hotel and i went back to the black thorn and
after a bit came back with joe. soon after we got back, some pizza
arrived. we think nat ordered it before he went to sleep, but we're
not sure. it may have been the pizza we ordered the night before
which never arrived.
at least i learned how to spell "ottawa" finally. also, i
was promised riots.

for lunch i had an omlette at some place with joe and nat. there
was a big piece of eggshell in it, which sucked. i would have said
something about it but just before that the table next to us left
without paying and i felt bad for the waitress.
i had dinner in the north end with blizzard, shona, alex, nat, joe,
taylor, ryan, and dr. pat. it was quite tasty although a bit
expensive.
