The lights are on but nobody's home

Everyone wants to be a friend

Nobody wants to be a slave

while at home and in the airport this week i've hacked up a couple of acpi applets. one is a battery applet, the other tells me the performace state and cpu speed things seem to be running at.

sprint coverage in cleveland sucks. apparently they are not allowed to build cell towers.

last night i hung out with my friends dave and lenza. i hadn't seen dave since last thanksgiving, and lenza since january. dave is now substitute teaching in the local schools, and had my other friend's sister in one of his classes.

the other day i made the mistake of buying some software (sim city 3000 unlimited for windows). i was going to order the linux one but it is out of stock. it is hard to be profitable when customers cannot buy your products. it is probably harder if you are losing money by keeping stuff in stock that nobody is buying.

anyway i didn't have windows installed, and i couldn't find my "system restore" cd for my new vaio, so getting windows on this laptop was quite difficult. it took like seven hours i think. then, when i finally could install sc, it required the cd to run (there were no cd drivers that worked with my laptop on sony's site, even though it is a sony cd drive). much pain.

mike h from support@ea.com fame sez:

the really questionable thing was why i bought the game. anyway, it should be easy enough to play on the other vaio so i will be doing that when i return to boston. i've been playing the demo, and it is still quite difficult to get a city up to 100,000 people in 10 years. especially when the demo crashes sometimes. apparently there is a fix for the full version, but not for the demo. so i have to just hope that it works.

We are the dollars and cents And the pounds and pence And the mark and the yen, and yeah We're going to crack your little souls

i remember back in mid-september people were much more curteous while driving. it's all gone now.

thank you everybody, g'night.

blah. i had a really good city. money was coming in, my loans weren't bad. the citizens were demanding a zoo and i was starting to put in a subway when it crashed. sigh.
